Description of Motive

Voluten Crater, a bronze wine vessel dating from the 6th century BC. The vessel was discovered at the Trebenishta site in Ohrid, Macedonia.

The Crater is 72 centimeters high and at the neck it is decorated with four figures of horsemens.

The figures are specially cast and fastened with wedges to the dish. The horsemen are placed in pairs on each side and are presented in a race.

The crater has two massive volumetric handles lying on molded winged Medusas. It is mounted on a tripod decorated with three figures of Medusas and three figures of dogs and foxes.
