Panagia is part of the episcopal attire. In a Orthodox Church a episkop is a spiritual dignitary who has the spiritual and administrative administration of a particular territory (episcopate). In the Catholic Church it is the bishop.
Panagia is a small icon, usually in a circular shape. The icon is placed in a metal frame, which is attached to a chain. The icon depicts the Mother of God and Jesus or just the Mother of God.
The episkop wears the panagia on his chest as a symbol of his faith in God.
