Description of Motive

Golden mask with a bee from Trebenishta, Ohrid, 5th century BC, Macedonia.

The golden mask above the root of the nose has a design of а bee.

The mask is decorated with various ornaments that have the symbolism of the sun.

The solar symbolism, among other things, is a feature of the old Macedonian dynasties, especially because, until the appearance of the masks from Trebenishta, this kind of symbols were unknown for then Greek and Illyrian world.

In the ritual of burial, the golden masks were a connection (unbroken link) between the life and the afterlife.
