Description of Motive
Yeni mosque is a mosque located on the town square in the center of Bitola. The name of the mosque means New Mosque in Turkish. By order of Bitola Qadi Mahmud-Effendi mosque was built in 1558, on the site of an older mosque building and on the remains of Christian temples. In the research of the building, walls from three churches were discovered, the oldest of which is from the 7th century.
Yeni Mosque as a valuable monument of Ottoman architecture has been declared a cultural monument. Among other things, the mosque is also known for its extraordinary decorative ornaments and stalactites. The glazed decorative features found on the Yeni Mosque are the only examples of their kind in Macedonia.
