Buckles are a traditional decorations of the Macedonian women’s folk costume, especially as part of bridal jewelry. It is a heavy metal buckle with accentuated dimensions and specific shapes. The buckle is attached to belt made of fabric.
Local characteristics are most pronounced in decorations of the buckles. The decorations are with geometric and plant motifs, enriched with filigree accessories.
They were made of metals such as bronze, brass and the semi-luxurious specimens were silver-plated or made of silver and gilded, decorated with mother-of-pearls, stained glass or pieces of semi-precious stones.
The village of Galichnik is located on the slopes of Mount Bistra in the Mala Reka area in the center of the Mijacija region in western Macedonia and is widely known for its rich cultural heritage, its authentic architecture and beautiful landscapes.
