The Battle of Is took place in 333 BC. between the Macedonian army led by Alexander III of Macedon and the Persian army led by their king Darius III Codoman. Alexander with his small army fought a victory, and Darius escaped from the battlefield. After this victory, Alexander the Great conquered Egypt where he was welcomed as a liberator and was proclaimed pharaoh.

Alexander III of Macedon or Alexander the Great was an ancient Macedonian king from the Argeadi dynasty, son of Philip II of Macedon. He was born in Pella in 356 BC. and died in Babylon, in 323 BC. The ancient Romans gave him the nickname Magnus, “Great”.
Alexander the Great ruled from 336 BC. to 323 BC. and is one of the most successful military leaders in the history of mankind. With his achievements, he left a deep mark in history and grew into an example of a hero, the subject of many legends.
