The Extra Muros Basilica is located 120 meters south of the city ramparts, hence its name “Basilica Outside the Walls”. It is the second largest among the basilicas in Stobi. It is a rectangular, three-nave church built from the 5th to the 6th century. The floor in the central nave is covered with a mosaic divided into rectangular fields. Various representations of early Christian motifs are found in the fields.

Stobi was built in the 7th century BC. and was located on the main road connecting the Danube and the Aegean Sea. The city was located at the confluence of Black River (Erigon) in Vardar (Axios), which turned it into a strategically important center for trade and warfare. During the Roman rule Stobi was the capital of the Roman province of Macedonia Saltaris. Confirmation of their economic and political importance is also the fact that the city had its own mint for making coins.

Throughout its history, Stobi was destroyed and rebuilt several times, but over time it lost its importance and economic power. The last inhabitants left the city in 1014.

Denseka in Stobi can be seen a second-century amphitheater, an episcopal basilica, a cruciform baptistery, a canvas workshop, numerous paths and walls decorated with mosaics, villas, baths and more. Stobi is one of the largest archaeological sites in Macedonia.
